Imari porcelain vase, Arita, Japan, c. 1700. Genroku Period.

Japanese Imari porcelain trumpet vase, Arita, c. 1700, Genroku Period. The tall octagonal vase, well painted with a crane flying before a flowering tree, above a ground of underglaze blue karakusa scroll. The neck painted with two small panels containing a hare, and a shishi dog, divided by a further karakusa scroll. Dragons flying amongst clouds, adorn the underside of the flared rim. Two sprigs of flowering branches in iron red and gilt painted to the interior of the vase. Height – 15”, 38 cm. Width – 8 1/4”, 21 cm – at the rim. Condition – Typical minor wear to the overglaze enamel. No damage. No restoration.
