A large, and heavy quality Japanese silvered bronze okimono, c. 1890, Meiji Period. Finely modelled as a Japanese Chin puppy, with his paws resting upon a ball. The playful dog realistically cast, and hand finished with chiselled detail to accentuate its flowing coat. His eyes inlaid in silver, over a shakudo ground. The bronze ball, picked out in silver, and copper, with geometric motif and various stylised textile designs. Length – 26.5 cm, 10 1/2”. Height – 21 cm, 8 1/4”. Depth – 10.4 cm, 4 1/8”. Weight – 5,189 grammes. Condition – Excellent. No damage.
