Wemyss Pottery pair of Goose flower holders, c. 1900.

A rare pair of large, Wemyss Pottery, Fife, Scotland, goose flower holders, c. 1900. Unusually, the geese are decorated in glazes, that are more typical of those found on pottery items produced along the East Coast of Scotland throughout the 19th Century. They are obviously a little more individual, as both items bear the initials of the decorator ‘B.R’. Whilst the factory produced these figures as Flower Holders, it is also possible that they could be used as sauceboats, as they are not far removed in design, from similar items produced in Staffordshire in the early part of the 19th Century. Impressed factory mark ‘WEMYSS’, and initialled by the decorator in puce enamel ‘B.R’. Height – 21 cm, 8 1/4”. Length – 15.5 cm, 6 1/8”. Depth – 9 cm, 3 1/2”. Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
